Game Premise and Unique Systems
The game will take place during a special open 'blitz' season of a Solaris feeder league in which participants will compete in a series of round robin matches in their groups, and then enter a final elimination brawl to determine a final standing. The overall winner will secure themselves a spot in the upcoming 'outsider' league. This slot is often sold when won by freelancers, as it allows an organization to field a team in the upcoming event - a not insignificant bonus on top of the existing cash prizes for the participants.
The matches play out over 3 nights, and then proceed into a final elimination series for a lightning blitz of mech vs mech action which can be edited down and sold as a holovid set, making the entire process a quick trip to fame, infamy, wealth, or ruin, all depending on the skill and guts of the participants.
The Fortunate Ones Mercenary Company
-- The goal of the Fortunate Ones is not necessarily to win the local arena matches, but doing so certainly won't hurt their efforts. The true aim of the company in this outing is to convince some wealthy buyers to purchase the new Oni series mechs that are being produced on Illium - hopefully at an aggressive markup. The progress toward this goal will be marked using Advertising Points, which will be earned through combat in the arena (piloting the Oni model mechs), out of combat events, and general RP by company members. The final results will be as follows:
100+AP: Too successful. The mech is coveted too much, by those with too much power. One of the great powers will send an expedition to secure the factory on Illium, cutting out the middleman. Quite violently, if necessary.
80-99 AP: Great success! there is a bidding war which results in a favorable sales contract to a major buyer - the company finances will be solid for the foreseeable future, even if mercenary work is light.
50-79 AP: Success. A buyer commits to buy the mechs at a competitive price for an initial production run. While insufficient to carry the company by itself, it will make the task of remaining profitable much easier than it otherwise would be.
25-49 AP: Minor Failure. The mechs will sell poorly, going at bargain rates to individuals and in limited number. This will leave the company with an excess of vehicles and a small cash buffer, but a need to find mercenary work, even if the contract isn't particularly favorable.
0-24 AP: Failure. The mech is derided and the company suffers a serious loss of prestige. Major Creed has to take any work he can get, no matter how dangerous and badly paying, just to keep the company running.
Free Agents
-- Any Free Agent or Fortunate One who is looking to compete in the mech arenas using their personal mechs will need to find a sponsor. There are many sponsors available which can be chosen on the first day, and each will have their own criteria for what keeps them happy, along with how much they are willing to pay for the sponsorship. Similarly, artists, agents, technicians, and other freelancers may want patrons to finance their stay in the expensive Solaris suburbs.
Sponsor Satisfaction:
High: -- Living costs and repair bills will be fully covered for standard items, and lostec/luxury goods will be covered up to a sum total equivalent to the limit laid out in the contract for that sponsor, after which sponsor satisfaction will automatically decay to normal.
Normal: -- Normal living costs and repair bills will be fully covered, and lostec/luxury goods will be covered up to 50% of the limit laid out by the sponsor.
Low: -- 50% of normal costs and repairs will be covered, and lostec/luxury goods will not be covered.
