Day 3: Lightning League wraps first rounds! (1/10-1/13)

The promised rain finally comes in the afternoon, the temperature plunging along with the deluge. Though chilly and damp, it is at least no longer so uncomfortably humid, and citizens can be seen bundled up and hurrying about with umbrellas and raincoats.

The rain lasts into the early night.

Events:
Royal RUMBLE! -- Arena match (Early Morning)
Camping Trip -- (Early Night into Day 4)

--- Gossip ---

"Some explosive matches yesterday. "
"Yeah, literally, in a few cases. This league may not be on the level of the regular season, but they've definitely let the fireworks fly with that first round."
"I guess, I just wish it wasn't so one-sided in all the fights."
"Me too. Hopefully it'll sort itself out soon."

"That new mech is interesting, and they're just letting any stranger walk in and see it."
"Really? I thought it'd be more secure... maybe I'll go take a look. Not like I an afford to own one... heh..."

--- News ---

Restrictions on traffic into the Black Hills remain in place today, with security stating that they do not currently have a timeline for easing the increased scrutiny. Protests by small business owners have begun to sprout up throughout the sector, claiming the restrictions are starting to threaten their ability to operate their businesses.

Rumors has it that one of the Winters siblings has gone missing. The family, which has been a staple of Lyran high society for some time, could not be reached for comment. Less reputable papers suggest she has eloped, while others claim it's a typical teen drama, played out with the wealth of major nobility. In any case, if this is true, it could become a staple of courtly gossip for the foreseeable future - a matriarch like Morgana Winters being shamed by her progeny would indeed make for spicy gossip.

In a press release last week, the New Avalon Institute of Science has declared that they have successfully replicated the manufacturing process for a new type of Jump Drive Coil, which should make domestic manufacturing of Jumpships markedly cheaper and more reliable, and could see the Jumpship Fleets of the Inner-Sphere rejuvenated in a real way for the first time in centuries. Though they caution the public not to expect results too soon, they do claim that this is a crucial step forward in making this process available to the shipyards of the Federated Commonwealth.

Justin Allard Liao is rumored to be on assignment once again, as he has not been seen in the St. Ives Compact for some weeks. Tabloids have spotted him, or a lookalike, in places all over the inner-sphere, fueling speculation as to where this famous gladiator-turned-spy-turned-Lord has gone.

The Comstar explorer corps has announced another series of expeditions, this time leaving from Rasalhague and Free Worlds League space, once again continuing their efforts to chart the stars and ensure the continued connection and communications of all humanity across the galaxy.

Re: Day 3: Lightning League wraps first rounds! (1/10-1/13)

Overheard ----

Corner Doc: None of them took me up on it. I hope none of them get too drowsy... a little addiction beats being dead, if you ask me.
Local beggar: I don't care, and you're scaring away the public, get off my corner!
Police Scanner: --- Disturbance in international zone - backup requested. Some sort of vagrant fight is going on.

Astech 1: You know Amali, right?
Astech 2: You mean the mountain? That woman is astonishing, she has to be at least seven feet tall. She's practically a loadermech.
Astech 1: Shhh, don't say that so loud geez. You notice she's been talking to Mata a lot lately?
Astech 2: Yeah, keeps the kid out from underfoot, it's been really helpful. Mata's a good kid but a bit... inquisitive, you know? Sometimes I don't have time to answer questions.
Astech 1: Right. I guess that's true. I just can't believe she still gets all her work done. I guess if you're that strong you can move parts fast enough...

Socialite: It seems like there is something going on in the outskirts, my staff tell me there have been police raids in the farmland, very serious ones.
Older Socialite: Really? How shocking. I hope whatever it is, it is resolved quickly.
Socialite: Yes, it's really upset them, and they've been making all sorts of mistakes. I've lost two trays of fine china already this week.
